troit representative of the federal public housing. authority. Mr. Ford, who owns 1200 acres of the proposed project site, has notified the authority he will resist “by every legal method” acquisition of his property and continuation of the project. “We are anxious to co-operate with Mr. Ford,” Mr. Starr said, “and we want to get his co-opera-tion with us. We have plenty of authority to take the land by court order, but we do not want to take that action. We would prefer to have his permission.”
Property Owners Resist
Mr. Stary said since May 13 opers ations “on this important war measure” have been at a standstill, chiefly because farmers owning property in the same district “have followed the lead of Mr. Ford” in!
Frederick VanNuys. As senate judiciary committee chairman, Senator VanNuys will have charge of the measure in the upper chamber. Incorporated by an act of congress in 1925, membership in the American War Mothers was limited to those women who had sons in the armed services of the United States during the World war. The new bill extends men.bership to the present war.
PERU CLASSIFIED FOR WAR HOUSING!
WASHINGTON, June 26 (U. P). —The war production board has added Peru, Ind, to the defense housing critical list, making them eligible for priorities on building materials

conversion and rehabilitation ss I. A. Capizzi, general counsel for aa Em RE ———— = | Mr. Ford, replied that “if Starr is [so anxious to assist the war workers at the bomber plant, the quickest, least expensive method— and the one using the least amount of vital war materials is to build temporary, not permanent strue= tures.”
Favors Small Town Sites
Mr. Capizzi suggested they should be built in small, surrcunding towns which, he said, would not require materials for water mains, sewers and other essential services. Meanwhile, R. J. Thomas, president of the United Automobile Workers (C. I. O.) denied that his union is “particularly interested” in having the project located in Washtenaw county as charged by farmers in the area. “We want housing close to the! plant because workers at Willow Run must live near their work,” he said. | “The exact location is up to the! government and is not our concern.” |
