A retired physician and a student of theology, Dr. Henry P. Clarke 4 died yesterday at St. Vincent's hospital. He was 75 and had been ill a short time. Dr. Clarke lived at 2610 N. New Jersey st. and had been retired 10 years, much of which time he and

his wife spent in Florida. The physician was a linguist with a knowledge of Greek, Latin, Hebrew, German, French and Spanish and during his study of theology assembled what is reputed to be the largest private collection of Bibles in the state. In addition to his scholastic atfainments, he also was an expert swimmer, Dr. Clarke came to the city when he was 14, having spent much of his boyhood in Ohio. He was born St. Louis, Mo. He enrolled in a preparatory school here which was affiliated with Butler university,

Mr. and Mrs. John B. Sauter, 2254 Union st, have received word that their son, John Jr, U. S. army, died in the naval hos= pital at Pearl Harbor from shrapnel wounds. He was on duty with an anti-aireraft unit. The 24-year-old soldier had been in service since June 10, 1941, and had been on duty in the war zone since October.
