End of an Era
AT THE CIRCLE this week, they finally bury Bogart. He was a tough hombre to get, but Hollywood finally got him in “The Big Shot,” where his fine dramatic talent is kicked around considerably.
It isn't a bad picture.
It can’t be, because it has Mr.
Bogart
to hold it together until, as all Hollywood gangsters must, — meets
a sad end. Fortunately, at this It seems to me that “The Big | Shot” will be doing a salutary service to the community if it marks

who can’t or won't act, and a trite story. However, there is a cops-and-robbers chase in the film which beats anything I ever saw. It is a long, slippery chase up and down hairpin-turn mountain roads in the snowy Catskills and I bet it wasted more good tire rubber in three minutes than the average motorist consumes in Six months. It certainly makes the kids cheer for Bogart. The story is about an shot who is goaded into an attempt to make a comeback by his ex-pals and an empty stomach. They get him in the end and they bury him, and professionally, = » » “WHISPERING GHOSTS” Circle's second bill, has Berle in it and some light comedy, spookified by a treasure hunt in the bilge of an old boat. number of sinister characters participate and when not looking for treasure evervone is looking for Brenda Joyce, who eiutehing hands with consider-

The Circle's Stage I® ADDITIONAL EVIDENCE were needed as proof of this column’s contention that stage shows are on the way back, it found in the plans of Art Baker, Circle manager. He has booked Kay Kyser & Co. July 10 Ted Weems and his band and Judy Canova open up the Circle's summertime series of stage attractions July 3. After Kyser, comes Skinnay Ennis July 17. with the Calgary Bros, comedians, and the dance act of Ruth and Billy Ambrose Last week, vaudeville established ite foothold once again in Indianapolis when a group of Chicago showmen purchased Keith's theater. Now. Mr. Baker has rought back the unit stage show. which is to continue all summer at least It seems to us that the town's brightening up . . . considerably.
