Otto Petit, Republican sheriff's nominee, today demanded an immediate hearing before Circuit Judge Earl R. Cox on his charges that a wide discrepancy existed in the number of ballots cast in two precincts of the 11th ward. Judge Cox set the hearing for this afternoon. . Mr. Petit charged that in the 8th precinct of the 11th ward, the canvassing board had marked 157 ballots on the outside of the bag and | that there were actually 187 bal- | lots found by the recount board. He | said the actual ballots showed a { gain of 19 for Jesse Hutsell, who is { contesting his nomination. Mr. Petit charged there was 2a | similar discrepancy found in ‘the {14th precinct of the 11th ward where he said there were 26 more | ballots than were listed by the can- | vassing board.

Alexander Gets Early Lead

Mr. Alexander, sixth district chairman, got a big lead early in the convention balloting yesterday and just as soon as it began to look like a “bandwagon” everyone hastened to get on. Mr. Knapp withdrew after only 54 of the 92 counties had been polled. The vote at that time stood 1256 for Alexander and 250 for Knapp. The house speaker pledged his support in the fall election.
