PROBE FATAL FIGHT NEAR TAVERN HERE
Three witnesses testified today at a coroner's inquest into the death of Harry Johnson, 29, of 1521 Montcalm st, shortly after midnight yesterday following an altercation near a tavern in the 1000 block, W. 16th st. Meantime, Ralph R. Staal, 31, of 3680 N. Tacoma ave, was charged with manslaughter and is at liberty on a $1000 bond. Witnesses described a scuffle between Staal and Johnson in which Johnson fell to the pavement. Those who testified were Oscar Ferguson, who works at a poolroom next door to the tavern; Harold mel, a customer at the tavern, and Marion Shariey, bartender there Funeral services for Johnson will be held at 7:30 p. m. tomorrow at the Shirley Bros. central chapel, with the Rev. Clarence Raldwin officiating. Burial will be at North Vernon, Ind. Johnson was born at Ft. Smith, Ark. and is survived by his mother, Mrs. Ollie J. Young.

Times Special WASHINGTON, June 10.-—Sen-ator Raymond EB. Willis (R. Ind) was literally “out in the park” when the senate voted to boost the sol diers’ pay to $50 monthly, he explained today. The pay boost carried 58 to 20,| with Senator Frederick VanNuys| (D. Ind) among those voting for it. Originally the senate set the pay at $42, but the vote Monday afternoon was forced by Senator Robert M. LaFollette (P. Wis.) after the house, at the instigation of Rep. John Rankin (D. Miss), on $50. Senator Warren R. Austin (R. Vt), who led the fight to keep the senate figure, reported Senator Willis “detained on official
