Rumors of Meat Shortage Denied

CHICAGO, June 9 (U. P).— The American Meat institute today denied rumors that a meat shortage is developing in the United States. For two weeks a shortage of beef did appear in the east, but not because of insufficient supply, an institute spokesman said. During the weeks of May 9 and 16 shippers, for no apparent reason, sent fewer cattle to market. During the week of May 30 shipments increased 15 per cent above May 2, and June 6 shipments were still larger. | It takes two weeks or more for meat to travel from slaughterhouse to consumer,

RYE AND SOYBEAN FUTURES ADVANGE

CHICAGO, June 9 (U. PJ. Grain and soybean prices moved higher in early dealings on the board of trade today. Rye and soybean futures showed the sharpest upturns with gains of more than 1 per cent. At the end of the first hour, wheat was % to % cent a bushel higher, corn unchanged to 4 cent higher, oats up !2 cent, rye up % to 1 cent, and soybeans up 7 to 1% cents.
