Hatchery to Be Dedicated As Fishing Season Opens
The Fawn river state fish hatehery, north of Orland, will be dedicated June 15, the opening day of the fishing season. The dedication program replaces the annual fishermen's jubilee held annually in Angola to celebrate the opening the season. Open house will be held at the hatchery in the morning, a picnic dinner will be served at noon and at 1 o'clock a parade will proceed from Orland to the hatchery. The dedicatory address will be made by Governor Schricker.
A casting tourney and other
sports events also are scheduled. The hatchery, completed this spring and covering 43 acres, is on [the site of the old Orland waterpowered grist mill. A part of the old mill dam was rebuilt to provide water for the hatchery.

COFFIN LAUDS J. S. DOCTORS
Internes at City Hospital Hear Sea Hero; 2 Negroes Among Graduates.
For the first time in 30 years, two Negroes were among the internes “graduated” from city hospital in exercises last night at the Indianapolis Athletic club. It was the second such annual “commencement” held.
The Negroes are Dr. Francis D. Hummons, 2242 N. Capitol ave., and Dr. H B. Anderson, 2133 Bellefontaine st. Lieut. Comm. Clarence E. Coffin Jr, officer of the U. S. cruiser, Marblehead, told the internes that “American doctors are the best in the world. They stand up under fire and are very seldom concerned about their own safety.”
Japs Called Barbarians
Comm. Coffin was aboard the Marblehead when it was badly damaged in the battle of Java and was on her as she limped along on the long journey to an Bastern seaboard port—a voyage which possibly made naval history. He is here now visiting his parents while the Marblehead is being repaired to go to sea again, “The Japanese are not human. They are barbarians and we cannot expect humane {reatment from them. In any department of warfare, one United States fighter can equal three Japanese,” he told the internes, many of whom are entering the army medical corps as first lieutenants.”
Those Commissioned
Those receiving such commissions are: Hummons, Anderson, H W. Beaver, Joe D. Boughman, Lee Brayton, John M. Bretz, William M. Browning, Murray Harden, Lowell Henderson, Nelan H. Hibner, Joe D. Thompson, William D Gambill, Louis W. Nie and Ward Warren,
Among other speakers besides Comm, Coffin were Dr. Charles W. Myers, hospital superintendent; Dr. George W. Kolstaedt, retiring member of the health board; Dr. A. F. Weverbacher, who succeeds Dr. Kolstaedt on the board; Mayor Sullivan; Dr, Kenneth Kolstaedt, assistant hospital superintendent; Dr, LaRue Carter, of the corps area advisory committee for the procurement of physicians, and Dr. Brandt F. Steele, secretary of the hospital staff society. Dr. C. J. Clark was toastmaster.

URGE CLOSE U. LINK TO CANADA
Majority in Dominion Hape For Free Trade After War, Poll Shows.
NEW YORK, June 4—More than three-fourths—76.3 per cent—of the Canadian people want free trade between Canada and the U. S. after the war, and 729 per cent would like to see free immigration between the two countries, the latest Fortune survey reveals.
This survey, the first public opinion poll the magazine has conducted in Canada, also discloses that the Canadian people: 1. See eye to eye with the U. S. public on most points that concern relationships after the war. 2. That they are even more favorably disposed than we are toward economic and political collaboration between the U. S. and the dominion. 3. But they are just as lukewarm as we to the idea of a political union. “Both countries lean heavily toward taking an active part in forming a new league of nations and making it work,” the editors conclude from these answers to the question: “Which one of these six policies comes closest to what you would like to see your country do when the war is over?” CanaU.S. dian Public Public home and have just as little as possible to do with any other country Have as little possible to do with any countries in Europe and Asia, but form a new union to include in one government all North and South American countries.
