Girl Fliers Ready for Combat ‘If Necessary’

SOMEWHERE IN ENGLAND,

June 2—Jacqueline Cochrane,

American aviatrix, and a group of women volunteers ferrying fighting planes about Britain, are ready to do combat flying with the Royal Air Force if necessary, they said today.

“I hope we women won't have to do any actual fighting,’

ORDERS REDUCTION IN CUTLERY OUTPUT

WASHINGTON, June 2 (U. P). —The war. production board has restricted the production of knives, scissors and other cutlery and ordered a complete ban on some items after June 30. The June 30 order will apply to such “unessential” cutlery as domestic carving sets, penknives, [pocket knives and manicure imple- | ments, unless they can be made of [gold and silver instead of steel. Social Workers Opens Here Tomorrow

The first annual Marion county regional conference of social work will be held tomorrow in the Wm. H. Block Co. auditorium under the joint auspices of state conference of social work and the Indianapolis council of social agencies. Announced by Wade T. Searles, executive secretary of the state social work organization, the conference will be based on a theme of “Social Welfare and the War.” Maj. Gen. Robert H. Tyndall, director of the Marion county defense Conte, yn act as chairman.
