Indiana Film Among Best By DeMille

‘Reap the Wild Wind’ Is|

Spectacular Saga With’ Plenty of Stars.

ONE OF THOSE spectacular sagas is “Reap the Wild Wind,” which opened yesterday at the Indiana. It is one of those films which has made Cecil B. DeMille at the top as _producer-director after 30 years of movie making. Starring Ray Milland, Paulette ° Goddard and John Wayne, the picture is the story of America’s battle to keep the sea lanes safe back in the 1840's. Salvagers plundered ships that floundered on the reefs, placing the country’s lifeline at stake.

One thing about Mr. DeMille— he believes not just in using a few top stars and comparatively unknown ones for his pictures. If

the occasion demands it, he has a/ |

cast made up entirely of stars. Here are a few of the names you will see in “Reap the Wild Wind:” Raymond Massey, Lynne Overman, Robert Preston, Susan Hayward, Charles Bickford, Walter Hampden, Martha O'Driscoll Beecher. As Loxi Claiborne, Miss Goddard 4s loved by two men, Mr. Wayne and Mr. Milland. Their greatest enemies are the Cutler brothers, who deliberately plan sHipwrecks so they. can obtain the cargo. This technicolor film has scenes of spectacular shipwrecks, roaring storms, fist fights and thrilling underwater sequences that make it a tribute to Mr. DeMille’s 30-years of service to the motion picture industry. . 2 a2 = IN CASE you have never seen the participants of the popular radio ‘quiz program, “Information Please,” there's a short subject of it on the Indiana screen this week. Clifton Fadiman, Oscar Levant, John Kieran, Franklin P:. Adams and Cornelia Otis Skinner are all in if. cee F. Ww.

Church Supper Sugar Is Worry

Shall we take a spot of sugar to church and drop it in the “collection bowl” or just how are we going to manage about sugar for church suppers, churchwomen are asking. The season for church suppers is about over now, but in the fall the churches will be faced with a genuine sugar problem. Churches, like fraternities and social clubs, “must be regularly engaged in the business of serving at least four meals per week” to take advantage of sugar rationing, according to local officials of OPA. Such organizations will be rationed sugar on the same scale as restaurants which are allowed 50 per cent of their 1941 consumption. But it is the church that is accustomed to serve less than four meals regularly each week that must get its sugar somehow. from

War Drama Of 1st Rank

Michele Morgan and Paul Henreid Excellent in Lead Roles.

MICHELE MORGAN'S first Holly-wood-made production is one which the American public will not soon forget. The same can be said of Paul Henreid, whom you, might remember for his performance of the Gestapo agent in “Night Train.” In “Joan of Paris,” which opened yesterday at the Circle, RKO-Radio pictures have given the theater public. a new romantic team “which should go far. Miss Morgan, as a barmaid in Nazi-ruled Paris, quickly" learns to love the leader of an RAF squadron, who has been shot down and is attempting to help four other of his comrades and himself escape back to England. Blocked by Gestapo

As the squadron leader, Mr. Henreid finds‘ his every move blocked by the Nazi secret police. He is trailed everywhere inspite of the fact that Joan (Miss Morgan) throws herself wholeheartedly into his cause.

Outstanding among the supporting players is the work of Thomas Mitchell, as Father Antoine, who helps hide the RAF fliers in the sewers under the Paris streets. Others in the. cast include Laird Cregar, May Robson and Alexander Granach. This suspense-packed drama has an ending which should leave you limp for a while as it did the patrons at the Circle yesterday.
