Fliers Invasion

SPOKANE, Wash. (U. P.).— Fifteen hundred wild = mallard ducks have caused Felts field fliers more trouble than the Japanese. The flight of ducks, long used to the army flying field as a game preserve, moved in and took possession of the airport, grounding army planes. The invaders were routed when army and game officers armed with sawed-off shotguns blasted the ducks into hasty retreat. But they returned every time the watchers relaxed. Army officials predict they'll have to remain on the alert un-

til the flock goes north to summer grounds.

CANNONBALL BARES WORK ON GAS SAVER

DETROIT, May 22 (U. P).— They still were talking in the federal building corridors today about a chance remark of E. G. (Cannonball) Baker, veteran automobile test driver, as a technicial witness in a patent infringement suit. The remark had nothing #0 do with the case at hand—concerning a dispute between the Universal Products Co., Inc, and Montgomery Ward & Co., on the matter of universal joints. Mr. Baker, holder of automobile speed records from New York to Los Angeles, began reminiscing and it led to a discussion of his present activities at his Indianapolis home. “Right now,” he remarked casually before a gasoline-ration conscious audience, “I'm perfecting a supercharger that will give a car 50 miles on a gallon of gasoline.” The patent suit was forgotten for a ‘moment while Judge Arthur F. Lederle brought out from Mr. Baker that he thinks the invention is
