omemaking— Fruit Cocktail Adds a Fillip To Fillings for Chiffon Pies

GELATINE CHIFFON pies have become very popular in the last few Year, not only because they are good to eat, but because the fluffy gelatine m@ixture, which goes so well with tender, flaky pastry, adds fewer calories to the diet list than does a “goo-ey” filling. Instead of always serving a plain chiffon pie—and lemon has held the. center of the stage—many housewives are adding fruit mixtures to

DEAR JANE JORDAN-—This is Lonely speaking. I've tried to keep from writing this letter but it finally has come to the place where I just have to. I am a girl of 16 and I am deeply in love. When I was a freshman I went with a popular boy the latter part of the year and most of the summer. Then we went to a party and he took another girl” home and so another boy took me home. ) Since then everything has been in an awful mess. Whenever I am in sight of him I have to leave right away or go crazy. About a month ago he told me to please remember that he really loved me but still he © Boes with another girl I've talked to her and she is just as crazy about him as I am. He says he doesn’t really like her but he sure acts like it. He doesn’t speak but I catch him looking at me quite a bit. Does this mean anything? ’ .I've gone with about every other boy I know but I told them all that I was in love and who with, and that I'll never love anyone else. I've tried but it won't work; so please when you give me advice don’t tell me to forget him because that’s easier said than done. Please let me know as soon as possible what to do besides forget him. LONELY ; . » ” ® Answer—In other words, you don’t want advice. You want to know how to get your own way in life without having to sacrifice your own desires. Well, I don’t know how to handle my own life in order to bring about such a lucky state of affairs. In common with the rest of the human race, I've had to forego the 4things I can’t have and seek for compensation in the things I can have. .I'm afraid you will have to adopt the same methods unless you rather would be lonely all your life. You've handled your prablem in the wrong way. You shouldn’t have talked so freely about your emotions to everyone who called on you. Naturally, some of your remarks have been repeated to the boy in question and they haven’t had the effect on him for which you hoped. Now he knows he can have you any time he wants you. He doesn’t have to fear the competition because you reject it. In other words, you no longer represent a challenge to his masculine powers and your stock automatically decreased in his estimation. You should have been more adJustable to disappointment and let him see that you were desirable to others if not to him. Instead you just hit bottom and stayed there, dissolved in tears. Such behavior is not attractive to any man. You're only 16 and this is your first whirl with defeat, but it won’t be your last. You'll snap out of it regardless of what you think now. Your cue is to make yourself more attractive instead of less so, to make more friends instead of alienating those you have. Speak to the boy pleasantly whether he responds or not. Be more casual in your attitude toward his sulking. Your attitude makes ~ His neglect more important than his attentions were. Bad tactics on your part, don’t you think? * " JANE JORDAN.

the gelatine. One of the best blends of fruit to use is the canned fruit cocktail mixture containing peaches, pears, pineapple, grapes and maraschino cherries. The syrup is drained from the fruit’ which is then cut into smaller pieces or mashed. Pears and peaches are easily mashed even though the other fruits are left in very small pieces. The syrup can be used in making the gelatine mixture. After the mixture has been whipped and is just about ready to pour into a baked pastry shell, the fruit is stirred in. Lemon gelatine is an excellent base for these fruits, but other flavors can be. ysed if preferred. Canned fruit juices such as pineapple, grapefruit, orange, loganberry, cherry and apricot are suited" to making this type of chiffon pie. Some chiffon pies are made by beating the gelatin mixture; some have added beaten egg whites; some have added whipped .cream. Either type is suited to the fruit cocktail mixture. 2 8 =

Repair Radiators

A leaky radiator is often blissfully ignored. To have it repaired costs little. But repair on the ceiling below, damaged by dripping water, comes high. ‘ns. 2.»

Closet Idea

A LITTLE contrast in color will give your linen closet or clothes closet a “decorator’s touch.” Why not paint the interior with some pleasing color that harmonizes nicely with the surrounding walls. If the outer walls are plain, a gay figured chintz or wallpaper for the inside might be to your taste. Shelving and accessories then should pick up one plain color from the design. 8 8 8 To remove clear tea or coffee stains from rugs, simply wash off with a bland soap and cold water. Rinse with clear cold water. If stains are from tea or coffee with cream, a good liquid dry cleaning agent is advisable. Be sure to select a fluid that will in no way harm the. coloring of the rug.

The Question Box

@Q—Please give information on cleaning an aluminum pan in which fruit has been burned. A—Use steel wool (very fine) and a good kitchen abrasive or the soap that comes especially for aluminum before trying anything more drastic. Other ways of cleaning aluminum include dipping in boiling concentrated caustic lye, washing in benzine, dipping in hot, strong nitric acid and washing in boiling water and drying quickly. Q—Is there any glue or cement strong enough to mend the lid that goes on the water compartment of the commode? A—One of the strongest and easiest applied cements for crockery, which should work equally well for cementing together broken parts of a water closet top, is lime and white of an egg. To use, take a sufficient

harden.

Q—My family is very fond of cottage cheese. Can it be made at home?

A—It is easy to make, but ordi-
