Plays Role of Cruel Sister In Feature at
Indiana.
“In This Our Life,” which opened at the Indiana yesterday, is a poig-
soon. Bette Davis, as the selfish, incon- | siderate “member of the once proud ‘Timberlake family, again proves that she is deserving of any and all praise critics have heaped on her in the past. She’s cruel, capricious— ‘the type that would commit murder if she believed it would bene-
All during her splendid ‘performance, Bette will have you hating her and at the same time liking her and wondering what she will do next. Has Able Support
Ably supported by Olivia de Havilland, who portrays her sister, Roy, George Brent, as Craig, Dennis Morgan, as Peter, Charles Coburn, as her uncle and Frank Craven, as her father, Miss Davis, as Stanley, first begins to take what she wants when she runs away with Roy’s husband, Peter.
But the runaways cannot get|i
along and in the end, Peter Kills himself and Stanley comes back to ‘the Timberlake home. It is then that she attempts to win back her former fiance, Craig, who has since found solace and comfort with Roy. Stanley: attempts to force Craig - to meet her at a roadside tavern and when he stands her up, she drives away angrily. She .fails to notice a woman and her daughter crossing the street and runs them down, killing the little girl.
Coburn and Craven Good
An attempt to place the blame on a young man who does odd jobs for the family fails in the end and Stanley seeks to escape from the ‘police in the car her uncle provided her. The end comes in the blazing wreck of an automobile on a lonely country road. . Mr. Coburn and Mr. Craven are ‘outstanding in their roles and the work of Miss de Havilland is, as usual, splendid. It’s a memorable experience.
2 ” The second feature is “Mexican Spitfire at Sea,” starring Lupe Velez and Leon Errol. Charles (Buddy) Rogers and Zazu Pitts top the supporting cast.—F. W.
WEEDE TO APPEAR AS SOLOIST TONIGHT

NEIGHBORHOODS
By FRANK WIDNER ep t———— THE NEIGHBORHOOD THEATER Kiddie Klubs have opened a
campaign for new members.
Managers of the Emerson and Sheridan have installed registration desks in the lobbies of their respective theaters so that the youngsters may sign up when they go to the show. The Rivoli already has a registration system set up for each Saturday matinee.
Members of the Kiddie Klubs receive free annual theater parties, picnics and a gratis pass to the show on their birthday. The age limit is 12 and those already registered are not: required to do so again. ” ” =
DON WRIGHT at ihe Rivoli tells us that those Saturday night late shows his theater has been featuring are getting more and more popular with defense workers who work on odd shifts. The theater brings back a revival each Saturday to add to the regular bill. Tickets can be obtained after 11 p. m. and the late show usually starts around 11:30. “I Take This Woman,” with Hedy Lamarr, Spencer Tracy and Laraine Day, is tonight's scheduled added attraction. » o » THAT HORROR show starring Bela Lugosi, “Black Dragon,” has moved to the South side and will be at the Granada Monday through Wednesday along with Hugh Herbert in “Don’t Get Personal.”

BILLNSHIRLEY, the Indianapolis lad who has been doing all right for himself out in Hollywood, can be seen in “Sailors on Leave,” the attraction at the Parker tomorrow and Monday. Bill, the son of Luther Shirley, Indianapolis, is now working on “Tiger Flyers” and is scheduled to appear in “Broadway Goes to College” and “My Buddy.” Twenty years old, Bill is hoping to come home this summer before he goes into the army.

DUE TO THE government’s efforts to cut down on power supply, the Uptown will inaugurate a new policy effective Monday which will cut approximately one hour off the regular power usage. O'Brien and Raft Teamed
Score Triumph in Gang Thriller at Circle.
Universal picked a good 'team when they selected Pat O’Brien and George Raft to co-star in the screen version of the famous stage success, “Broadway,” which opened at the Circle yesterday. The studio also brought two comparatively newcomers as far as the public is concerned into roles where they get a chance to show what they can do. These young ladies are Janet Blair and Anne Gwynne, the former whom you might remember as a singing star with the late Hal Kemp and his orchestra. Pat O'Brien is cast ‘as the wise member of New York’s homicide squad and George Raft plays the

dancing career with Mr. Raft. Flashback Style Used
Hard feelings between Crawford and Raft over the attentions of Miss|gr, Blair result in the latter being framed for the murder of Flynn. Pat O'Brien, with a heart that is|?® bigger than the job he has to do, is the typical Irish cop who knows when and where to ask the questions and when to keep his mouth shut. The film is presented in a flashback manner, that is, the picture opens in the present era with Mr. Raft revisiting the scene of the night club where he used to dance.
‘ | There, he tells the story of his rise
to fame to the nightwatchman of a construction company that is building a bowling alley on the spot. It’s good entertainment, with a well rounded cast. » ” ”
Skinnay Ennis and his orchestra, along with the singing of Judy Canova, provide the high spots for “Sleepy Time Gal”, the second feature at the Circle this week.— F.W.
