This will be more of a Good Neighbor season than ever, because most of the straws available come from the West Indies, Central and South America.

As for style, last summer’s trend to lighter colors continues. Bands

will be loud or reticent, according to your taste. Brims will be a bit narrower,. but still wider than those on the winter felt that custom

says. should be stowed away on May 15. In the straw itself, the trend. ‘once more is toward natural colors and medium tan tones. The popular

With good neighborly Latin America right close by, there’ll be no priority on straw for men’s hats this summer. And this year’s crop provides as wide a variety as ever, as these photos show. There are some tricky new weaves in Panamas, and some weaves that show a plaid-like pattern in two colors for those who like their toppers on the gay side. : Most hats being on the conservative size in shape and color, individuality can let itself go in the trimmings. Bands range from solid colors to splashy prints. For town wear, smarties prefer the plainhued ‘ones, either in straight ribbon, or pleated, puggree form. Striped grosgrain ribbons are also good for business wear, unless the colors are too hi-de-ho-ho. If you go for eye-catching color in your hat bands, better confine it to sports hats.
