ADD TECH TEACHER TO CAMPFIRE BOARD

The Campfire Girls for the Lake States district have added Gertrude Thuemler of Technical high school to the executive board. Miss Thuemler was elected at a recent district meeting to which she was a representative. ” ” ” After collecting 15,000 records, the student body of Technical high school has finally achieved its aim of having a combination phono-graph-radio outfit. To celebrate, a record hop was held Tuesday in the Student center, and the “combo” was initiated.

Louise Beller or Howard ‘Kwitney May Receive Scholarship.

Louise Beller and Howard Kwitney have been judged winners of the Pan-American essay contest held at Shortridge high school. Five contestants submitted essays of approximately 700 wqrds on the subject, “What Inter-American Cooperation Means to My Country,” The judges were Charles J. Wilkerson, head of the English department, and Mrs. Blanche Rawlings. If either of the two Shortridge winners should win in state competition, he or she would be eligible to try for a four-year scholarship to any school in the Western Hemisphere. Shortridge high school principal, Dr. J. Dan Hull, has his article, “A Schoolman Looks at the Problems of Adolescence,” in the current issue of Public Welfare. The article treats the problems of youth brought about by war and unemployment. Dr. Hull stresses in his paper the need for vocational information, the assets of mental and physical health, the development of good citizenship habits and the appreciation of the cultural phases of life. 2 x =
