Model Plane Winners

Winners in the recent model airplane building contest at Speedway high school were announced today by G. L. Trosky of the industrial arts department. First place for stick models went to Robert White. Second and third places in this division were won by Wilbur Riedy and Robert Huber, respectively. ’ Robert White also won first place in the fuselage model class and Ward Hackleman was awarded second prize. ” ” ”

Two Win Scholarships

Two Speedway high school senfor girls have been awarded university scholarships. Betty Joan

Nay has received a Butler university award and Novella Northcott one from Indiana university. Miss Nay Will be salutatorian of her class -at graduation exercises Monday night. She has been president of both the dramatic and Latin clubs this year and is treasurer of Speedette, annual yearbook publication. Miss Northcott is to be valedictorian of her class. She was class secretary this year and a member of several senior committees. She also was literary editor of the S, ette and associate sports editor of the school paper.

Main, superintendent of the Minnesota conference of the United Brethren church, will deliver the baccalaureate address, and music will be furnished by the college choir under the direction of Miss Esther Becker. At 8 p. m, the senior candlelighting service will be held in the church with Dr. I. J. Good, college president, presiding. Members of the senior class, who will receive high honors on commencement day, will speak on the program. Commencement. exercises will be observed next Friday at 5 p. m. on the Men’s hall campus,

WASHINGTON HIGH AWARDS DAY SET

Washington high school’s 15th annual awards day and strawberry festival will be held Thursday in the boys’ gymnasium, with J. E. Marshall as general chairman. A procession at 3 p. m. will open the activities. Leading the processional will be May Queen Naomi Lasley, accompanied by her six attendants, Colleen Dunn, Rhodna Repcheff, Betty Fletemeyer, Nancy Meloy, Virginia and Jeanne Winters. After awards have been made there will be exhibits of work by such departments as fine arts, home economics and industrial arts. The Continental Girls’ Athletic association then will’ sponsor a dance in the girls’ gymnasium. Association officers are Jean Linn, Joan Spaulding and Miss Winters. The strawberry festival will be held in the school cafeteria from 5 until 7 p. m,, with parents, friends, pupils and faculty invited. A P.-T, A. business meeting at 7:30 p. m.,, at which officers will be elected for next year, will be the

last event of the day.
