There would be no gain to our country by putting him back in prison,” the Governor said.
Murphys Silent
Although they had notice of the hearing before the governor, no Missouri’ officials were present. Neither Mr. nor Mrs. Murphy would comment on the case. General Motors officials said that they were trying to get a pardon for Mr. Murphy from the Missouri governor, Mr, Murphy who has had his name changed legally since he left Missouri from Alfred H. pre-primary favorite, by a vote of

A slow, central board count was expected to keep the 1lth district result in doubt for the remainder of the day.
McMurray Appears Safe
Complete figures were lacking on the 6th district Democratic race between Floyd I. McMurray, Thorntown, and Alanson Albright, Ca-
‘|yuga, but there was little possibility
that Mr. Albright would overcome Mr. McMurray’s more than 3000 vote lead. About 63 out of the 363 precinets in the area were yet to be heard from. All unreported precincts were in Vigo county. In other sections of the state, voting equipment was returned to storage to await the November general election. The final count in the 5th district Democratic race gave Edward Hays, Marion, and organization hope, a total margin of 4330 over Olin Holt, former Kokomo mayor. In the early stages of the race, Mayor Holt challenged Mr. Hays, and, for a time, appeared a possible winner.

Completion of tabulation in the 8th district showed Charles M. LaFollette of Evansville, a two-to-one winner in the G. O. P. congressional event. The vote on’the Democratic 11th district ‘affair in Indianapolis also was incomplete, but there was no doubt but that the incumbent, Louis Ludlow, had severely beaten his opposition,
MNUTT EXPRESSES HIS FAITH IN YOUTH
CHICAGO, May 8 (U. P.).—Federal Security Administrator Paul V. McNutt expressed confidence last night that democracy and youth
after the war would build “a finer and more socially responsible world” without the “unmerited poverty and insufficiency that have afflicted our people in the past.” . Mr, McNutt and former President Herbert Hoover spoke at the closing session of the 36th annual convention of the Boys Clubs of America. Mr. McNutt praised the work and the aims of the clubs and of the government’s CCC and NYA programs in preparing youth to “carry on the start we of this generation have made.” : In contrast, he said, youth in axis countries, “ignored by their governments” during depression years, turned to “violent solution of their problems” and “dazzled by gaudy uniforms and secret hocus-pocus,” were swept into the fascist movement.
