" GLENN MILLER remains the favorite dance band with the college youth of the country for the third consecutive year. In the fifth annual college sivatle poll conducted by the theatrical : weekly, Billboard, the maestro nearly tripled his musical stock in the tabulations sent H in by 158 colleges. 8 His score was 376. Tommy Dorsey polled 211 points for second position and Harry - James, who copped the “Spotlight Miss O'Connell Bands” honor spot for seven times, rose from last place to third. Benny Goodman, Jimmy Dorsey and Vaughn Monroe finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. Helen O'Connell, who ‘has a high place among the prettiest band vocalists in the business, walked off with top honors as the favorite feminine singer, Ray Eberle, Glenn Miller's vocalist, was first in the male classification. As to the bands most likely to succeed in the coming year, the collegiate youth looked to Hal Mec-

STORY OF RED CROSS
Heads of the various divisions of the Red Cross will describe the part the organization plays in “The Story of the Red Cross” to be given at the Rotary club at noon tomorrow in the Claypool hotel. W. I. Longsworth, chairman of the Indianapolis chapter, will act as master-of-ceremonies. Those who will describe their activity in the organization include Gen. Robert H. Tyndall, chairman of the blood donor committee; E. H. Kemper McComb, chairman of the jun~ ior Red Cross; Robert S. Wymer, director of chapter activities, and Mrs. Perry Lesh, chairman of volunteer serivces.

Six of Eight Crewmen Die As Big Craft Falls on
Orgeon Mountain.
- PENDLETON, Ore., May 4 (U. P.). —An army board of inquiry today studied the burned wreckage of a flying fortress bomber which crashed on a routine training flight two miles north of Meachim, Ore. killing six of its eight crewmen. The four-motored Boeing plane, attached to Pendleton field, crashed and exploded in the wooded mountains yesterday, while circling for an emergency landing. (None: of the victims was from Indiana.) Technical Sergt. Wesley E. Wallace, Philadelphia, and Sergt. John H. Starr of Littleton, Mass., were thrown from the plane and injured seirously. Sergt. Wallace limped three miles through the woods on Blue Mountain to notify authorities. Sergt. Starr's injuries were reported “critical.” -
BOISE, Ida, May 4 (U. P.).— Army planes searched today for a missing bomber, which army officers feared had crashed with its crew of six on a routine flight from Gowen field to Spokane, Wash. Army spokesmen said the plane left Gowen field at 3:05 p. m. yesterday with enough gas for six hours.
TACOMA, Wash,, May 4 (U. P.).— Three officers were killed and a fourth injured seriously. yesterday, when their army bomber. crashed at
McChord field. Army authorities declined to discuss details of the crash and appointed a board of inquiry to determine the cause.
