“TO FIRST LADY
Income Curb Approved But She Doesn’t Say How Much She Earns.
WASHINGTON, April 30 (U. P.). —The $25,000 net income limit suggested by ner husband is okay with Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt. «It will be all right with me,” Mrs. Roosevelt told her press conference yesterday without revealing whether she would be among the 15,000 Americans whose incomes
would be affected. The first lady’s income from writing and radio appearances has sometimes been a subject of comment. Much of the money she turns over to charities.
No Pleasure Driving
Mrs. Roosevelt said gasoline rationing will curtail activities at the presidential Hyde Park home, with all pleasure driving probably being eliminated. She said that Mrs. Henrietta Nesbitt, housekeeper at the White House, will be sugar rationing registrar for the president’s household here next week. The president’s wife also told of a movement by herself and wives of cabinet members and other high government officials to see what can be done to make living more comfortable for thousands of young women coming to Washington for war work.
Working Girls’ Problems
Investigation, she said, revealed that these young girls are finding three special problems; 1. Finding an adequate place to live at a rent they can afford to pay. 2. Finding an opportunity to go to a doctor when they need medical attention, at an hour when doctors’ offices are open. 3. Locating a place to eat near their government office buildings, particularly for those in places outside the main business area. - One case was reported, Mrs. Roosevelt said, of five girls living in a basement room and paying $35 a month each for rent.

TOWNSHIP-OWNED
