KANSAS CITY, Mo, April 30 (U. P.).—The state of Kansas which long -has scorned the effeteness of the east and gone its way amid its wheat fields, dust bowls and sturdy spirit of Americanism, today saw some of its best known communities in an uproar—over a glamour-girl heiress whose husband has Just enlisted in the cavalry. These communities all want the vague honor of being the temporary home of Mrs. Pasquale DiCicco, better known as Gloria Vanderbilt. Her husband, - Pat, of the best Hollywood circles, is going to learn about saddles callouses, surcingles and left and right diagonals at Ft. Riley and Gloria is going to establish a home to be near him. And there’s the rub. Very few Kansas towns have ever had a real, live Vanderbilt as a resident, and each of the nearby communities has entered into spirit-
Gloria as its own.

The ink hadn't dried on Pat’s enlistment papers before Topeka, Salina and Manhattan had started the campaign by urging the Di Ciccos tb locate in those communi-
ties. It was a civic ambition and the contest was on.
