for the nation’s moviegoers who never tire of them, One reason, I think, is the extraordinary subtle direction of these films. Another is their consistently good taste. With approximately the same casts and settings, the Hardy pictures are seldom repetitious, never dull. The dialog is consistently good, the acting exceptional and the illusion of actuality is faithfully created. Mickey Rooney and Lewis Stone carry the acting burden, although Fay Holden (mother), Cecilia Parker (sister), Sara Haden (Aunt

Towing Troubles
IN THIS ADVENTURE, Andy is still waiting to go to college, the point where we left him last time, and is operating a towing’ business. He tows himself into difficulties which fade out after a while as he is assigned to cheer up the town’s wallflower, Miss Reed. Sister Marian, meanwhile, returns from the Big City where she has acquired {metropolitan airs. Mother gets mixed up with a mail order racket and the stage is set for the usual trouble which everyone invariably gets into. The old judge, naturally, solves all problems in his Solomonic way, including an impending divorce, which is brought into the series for a second time, The Hardy family plots are actually the least significant phases of the series. But the fact
that they are generally poor does .
not seem to affect the entertainment value of the pictures, which are pure comedies of manners. My prediction is that Andy will eventually go to college, and then, possibly, into the service, if Mickey Rooney doesn’t precede him. It doesn’t matter what happens. The Hardys are the old reliable when it comes to entertainment. : ” 5 o
