40 Per Cent of Farms Have Lights: Consumers Rise | Million and Half.
NEW YORK, April 20 (U. P).— Unprecedented demands brought) about by the nation’s war effort set new all-time operating records in the nation’s electric light and power! industry during 1941. The industry's 16th annual re-; port, released today by the Edison Electric Institute. revealed that! total production last year was 159] per cent above that of 1940, wile the total generating capacity on| Dec. 31 was 2,370,944 kilowatts above | the end of the previous year.
Average Price—3.73 Cents
Sales to small consumers increased five billion kilowatt hours during the year, as almost a mil- | lion and a half new consumers were added. These additions resulted | from extension of rural service, ex-| tensive building of new homes and improvement in workers’ incomes.
The average residential user of electricity paid 3.73 cents a kilowatt hour for his lights and power last year, compared with 384 cents in 1940.
