Two Buckeyes Clash in Ring Here Friday

Another five-bout professional boxing bill will be staged at the Armory next Friday night by the Hercules A. C., with middleweights Toughy Gib Jones, Cincinnati, O, and Curly Denton, Dayton, O, clashing in the ten-round main attraction. Jones, one of the most popular belters to appear here in recent months, scored a 10-round decision over Al Sheridan, Indianapolis 160pounder, at the armory two weeks ago. Denton also has decisioned Sheridan and also boasts a victory over Jones in a recent scrap at Louisville. Matchmaker Lloyd Carter has signed two welterweights in an eight-round semi-windup; Sam Rutledge of Columbus, O., and Bobby Nichols, stablemate of Jones. Nichols upset Milton Bess, local welter, in five rounds on the JonesSheridan card. ‘Earl Paul, victor in his last two starts as a money fighter, also will have a place on the program. An opponent for the popular local featherweight is being sought.

Soph Hurlers Pace Butler

It looks like another sophomore year for Butler university athletes. The Bulldog baseball team has won its three first games and chalk each win to a second year man. Harold Miller won the first tilt. Last Saturday sophomores Norman Williams and Glenn Miller hurled the Bulldogs to a double triumph over DePauw university on the Fairview diamond. Williams gave the Tigers one hit in the first game and connected for a homer in the fourth inning as Butler won, 8 to 2. DePauw scored all of its runs in the first inning of the second game after which Miller gave up but one hit. Butler won 9 to 3.
