HUBERT HERRING Hoosier Helps Mock Hitler
SPEAKS TONIGHT fx
Author to Describe Role of Latin America in War Memorial Talk.
Hubert Herring, leader in the movement for better Latin-Ameri-can relations and the author of numerous magazine articles on the subject, will lecture at 8 o'clock tonight at the War Memorial auditorium under the auspices of the I. U. extension division. He will speak on “The Role of Latin-America in the War” and is to be introduced by Herman Wells. | I. U. president. | Founder of the Committee on Cultural Relations with LatinAmerica, Mr. Herring is a resident of New Haven Conn. He is the author of a recent book, “Good Neighbors,” published by the Yale university press.
Has Faith in Argentina
In his writings and lectures, Mr. Herring has contended that Argentina, reluctant to break off relations with the axis, will be completely on the side of the United States when it is shown that Amer-| ica can carry its battle lines 7000 miles from home Current Argentine policy, lieves, is largely dictated by fear.|” But Argentine people. as well as American soldiers in Ireland to the rest of Latin-Americans, are on|freeze Hitler in effigy. the side of the United States, Mr.! phat was their way of “honoring” Herring has declared. the fuehrer for his “victories” durHis lecture tonight will be free ; ing the winter in Russia. to the public and a discussion perioq) Prt. for question and answers will RE) Joli Indianapolis before he became a

INVENTS | UNIQUE TRAFFIC SIGNAL
Local Officer Hopes His Portable Device Will Aid Safety.
Emanuel Gebauer, veteran Indi-| anapolis motorcycle policeman, has invented a device which he hopes will take the danger for his fellow cops out of directing traffic at dangerous intersections at night. The device is a box about 18
inches square at the bottom and 10 inches high, which has automobile bulb-size green, red and white lights on each of the Wer sides. The box has a rubber top and | the officer is to stand on it, operat- | ing the green and red lights by| pushing a button with his foot. The white lights are not to be used except when the officer is not on the box. Then they will be left] on to keep motorists from running over it. » The sides of the box incline] | slightly towards the top, thus keep- | ling the lights from glaring, Pa- | trolman Gebauer said. The lights] can be seen from two blocks away. The lights are run from a battery which is placed inside the box. | The battery will operate the lights | continuously for twc and one- -half | { hours and the box is constructed so | that it can easily be connected with ! a recharger. Police officials plan to test the box the first time there is a night {game at the ball park or a big crowd at the Coliseum.
