Fear Wife of Former I. U. Athlete Is Japs’ Prisoner

LOGANSPORT, Ind, April 9 (U. P.).—Mrs. Ema Hooks Etnire, wife of Senior Lieut. Robert Etnire, naval flier and former Indiana university basketball captain, is believed a, prisoner of the Japanese at Manila, according to a letter re-

here. Lieut. Etnire wrote he had received no word from his wife since they fled from their Manila apartment Jan. 2 as the Japanese entered the city. He left the Philippines for the Dutch East Indies and is now believed on the west coast.

Mrs. Etnire is the daughter of Thomas Hooks, oil company official of New Orleans. Lieut. Etnire graduted from Indiana university in 1937 and was captain of the basketball team his last two years. He also was a former star at the Yl.ogansport high school. He enlisted in 1938.
