THE FIRST OF THE MONTH brings a deluge of mail from Hollywood, mostly addressed to the party who sat and suffered at this desk 11 years ago. It makes me wonder what ever became of him. In 11 more years, perhaps, Hollywood may at length inscribe my name on the sucker list for mailing purposes. Perhaps, then, there will be someone shuffling through the trash pile on this desk, wondering for a fleeting moment |, whatever became of me. Sic | transit gloria mundi. | Today's infonmation concerning the films of the near future reveal five new “powerful, dramatic, human-interest sagas of the Early West,” three mystery chillers, two domestic comedies, one parlor, bedroom and sink comedy, two musical comedies and one ittle number I can't classify, entitled “Sweater Girl.” I shall review the plots briefly.

The fifth saga—well, you never say anything like it. Richard Dix (welcome home, old timer) plays the part of a frontier marshal who beats up a bunch of rustlers. It is easy to see that the only thing in common these pictures have is that they all have fine horses in them, except the oil picture which has oil plugs. = = =

Symphonic Choir To Appear at I. U.
The Indianapolis symphonic choir will appear at Indiana university Sunday afternoon, April 19, for its first out-of -town performance. Elmer A. Steffen will direct. The choir will sing several unaccompanied melodies by contemporary Russian composers, modern part-songs and operatic excerpts. Another concert by the choir is scheduled Sunday afternoon and evening, May 3, at the Coliseum in which the choir will be part of the program of a piano festival.

Kurt Mueller (Paul Lukas) makes certain that the treacherous Count de Brancovis (George Coulouris) doesn’t reveal his identity to the German embassy in “Watch on the Rhine.”. This prize-winning. .play by Lillian Hellman appears at English’s next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with a matinee Wednesday.

I am going to place this column in an iron box.
I am going to bury the box in |
the basement, with instructions on how to dig it up. I am going to paste a note on the box: “For release April 1, 1953.” All my successor has to do is to change the names of the actors— maybe he won't even have to do that—and he has a column all laid out for him. It1l be timely, too.
