Civio League Members Aot
When City Is Unable to
Enforce” Traffic Law.
The Brookside community works shop got into proauctioh today to help Gefense, cure a trafic probe lem and prove to the safety board
that “it .can be done.” The workshop project is the oul mination of several years of came paigning on the part of the Brooks side Civic league. The meémberd wanted trucks off of Brookside ave. A city ordinance prohibits trucks on the thoroughfare but the street wasn’t posted because of a lack of
signs The safety board ‘told the resi dents of that area that it éould not enforce the law because the street wasn’t posted. The last time was a week ago when a delegation headed by Mrs. Julia Alexander and Ray Van Tassle asked for traffic law enforcement. -
Compromise Accepted
80 the delegation then offered the safety board a compromise. “If sighs were by the delegation woiild the . ‘poard order “olige ehs forcement? The board was glad to do. so, and today women of the community, armed with saws and paint brushes began* production of the wooden signs which will gam truck drivers of the law. The safety board had told the group that because of national defense iron aigns could not be had. Signs of wood are the Brookside group's answer. The league will make 30 signs, 18 by 14 inches in size. They Are to be painted yellow with blagk lets ters. And to truck drivers they will read: “Trucks over 14 tons | prohibited.”
