STEEL UNIT BEGUN

CHICAGO, March Construction workers are building a new blast furnace unit at the Indiana Harbor plant of Inland Steel Co., Vice president Clarence B.

Mr. Randall said piling had been driven for four stoves and was be-

The company hopes to complete the unit by November, cutting the normal 18-month construction period to one year. The unit was described as an “insurance unit” to take up the slack in production next fall when two of the company’s five furnaces probably will require relining.
