The enemy agents — there are tens of thousands of them still at large — then go around to their American “contacts” — bitter-end isolationists and Roosevelt-haters —and “needle” them, The contacts do not always realize they are being needled and do not identify the needlers as enemy agents—or at least do not realize what they are really up to—but they are -always ready to believe anything unfavorable to the British, Russians or the Administration. They needle easily and when properly needled open their mouths ip congress, in the newspapers and among their friends. The result is a great wave of eriticism or pessimism about our allies—helped along by tu articles or statements by enemy agents disguised as patriots and interventionists—which is strongly reflected in the American press.
