Auto Wrodkers to Meet WPB Representatives Here Sunday.
The campaign to get scrap metal out of auto graveyards and. into war production will get underway in Indiana Sunday with a meeting of - the State Committee of Auto Wreckers at 2:30 p. m. at the Hotel Lincoln. ‘Donald Cummins, field worker for the war production board, will ade dress the meeting and ask the auto wreckers to co-operate fully with the WPB even if there is some patriotic sacrifice of their own interest. Mr. Cummins said the auto wrecks ; ers, who are performing a valuable service to the country, are going to ter their present methods of dog business so that Uncle Sam can have thousands of tons of needed scrap. . r Dismantle Cars
He said that the wreckers would now dismantle. all the old cars on their lots, save the readily salable parts for their own stocks and sell the bulk of the metal to scrap dealers. Previously; the wreckers usually left parts on cars until pure chasers turned up. “Present scrap prices fixed by the office of price administration’ will remain unchanged for the duration of the war,” Mr. Cummins said, “Consequently it is obvious that there can be no incentive to Hoard scrap in the hope of getting higher prices.” :
