Church Bids For Support

13, E. Side Congregations

Call on New Families.

Visitors from 13 East Side con-

gregations are calling on families of defense workers with a view to interesting them in church attendance. The calls are being made as a result of an East Side religious sutvey conducted some weeks ago by the, East “Side Council of Churches. About 500 workers visited nearly 13,000 new families in the city during the survey. The families were asked a few simple questions concerning their ¢hurch preferences and the answers, noted down on the visitors’ cards. Nearly all the families expressed a leaning toward some particular denomination or congregation, while a few said their interest in churches was confined to such occasions as weddings and funerals, reports the Rev. A. M,. Brown,

Calls to Continue

The Rev. Mr. Brown is the newly elected president of the East Side Council and the pastor of the East Tenth Street Methodist Church. He said the visitors would probably continue calling on the new defense

| workers until Easter.

An increase of about 5 per cent in attendance at Sunday worship at the Woodruff United Presbyterian Church is attributed to the influence of the visitors by the Rev. W. C. Ball, pastor. The Rev. Mr. Ball said one man who has “returned” to church expressed gratitude for being made “church con-

Warning Sounded

The purpose of Lent is to keep us ‘spiritually strong for our daily combat with the world, the flesh and the devil, he says. A warning not to lose the war

Considering the associated spiritual emergency that - comes with desperate times such as these, I propose a price-tag, if you will, upon the services and contributions which the CHURCH is offering to every man, woman and child in our great democracy. Who will attempt to evaluate the privilege of associat ing oneself with God-fearing, decent and upright fellow men at the church service or the inner-church clubs and circles? Every person who walks through the church door ‘to clasp hands with such friends should sense their ine ability to repay such a privilege as they walk away from the screaming headlines which tell of other men’s
