URGE FOR TO DIRECT UNIFIED WAR STAFF
WASHINGTON, Feb. 5 (U. P).— Influential members of Congress may urge President Roosevelt soon to reorganize command of land, sea and air forces under a single general staff responsible only to him. Sentiment for a supreme high command at Washington has gained ground in the House and Senate since publication of the Roberts report on Pearl Harbor. Meanwhile a Pacific war council with political headquarters in London and military strategy directed from Washington may be the answer to the need for unified conduct of the war in the Pacific, a high diplomtaic source said. British statesmen were said to be disturbed by the growing tendency of the British dominions to look to the United States for help and guidance. It has been no secret here that both Australia and New Zealand have been dissatisfied not only with Britaihs’ conduct of the war thus far but also with the pre-war type of British statesmanship.
= PAN AMERICAN TRAINS
PILOTS IN MIDWIFERY
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 5 (U. P). —Pan American Airways will not be undone by that unpredictable bird, the stork, so it has added a course in midwifery to the training pilots making the transPacific run. Because many expectant mothers are returning to the mainland by air, company surgeons have intructed pilots in a midwife’s duties and have supervised installation of emergency maternity wards in the big ships. No babies have been born as yet, the company said, and no immediate plans are being made for a “pacing room” for expectant fathers.
BROKER IS SOUGHT IN ALLEGED FRAUD
CHICAGO. Feb. 5 (U. P.) —Police sought Julius Dewey Abraham, 52, real estate broker, today on a warrant charging him with operating a confidence game which may have cost his “investors” $500.000 or more. Abraham. described as a man with a passion for flashy clothes and jewelry, has been missing from his home and office Jan. 26. Criminal Court Judge Harold G. Ward issued the warrant on a complaint signed by Abraham's parttime secretary, Mrs. Rose Karant, who said she had invested $900 on one of -his real estate “tips.” -
