Attacks by U-Boats; No ‘Victory’ Date.

BERLIN, Jan. 30 (Official Broadcast Recorded by U. P. in New York) .—Adolf Hitler today accepted full responsibility for Red Army advances on the eastern front but, asserting that the Nazis strike first, he warned America that “we shall now see what our U-boats may achieve,” and declared that the Axis war machine was ready for “everything.” Speaking on the ninth anniversary of the Nazi rise to power in Germany, Hitler said that: 1. Japan's attack on America has “left us free to act” despite President Roosevelt's previous efforts to ‘chase the German U-boats out of most of the seas and keep them in narrow waters where he would be able to ward off their attacks with all of his naval might.”

Revises ‘Victory’ Estimate

2. The end of the war cannot be predicted, but Germany, Italy and Japan will march together to victorieg this year even if the conflict does not end in 1942. (Previously Hitler had predicted the end of the war within a year on each New Year's day.) 3. For everything that has happened in Russia “I am responsible” but the Russian advances of “some kilometers” will be wiped out by a new German offensive in the spring. 4. Bolshevism may come to England but “it will never come to Germany” and the war will mean the “destruction of Jewry” in Europe. 5. The German people need not fear a repetition of the defeat of 1918.

When Winter Ends—?

“We are defeating the plans of President Roosevelt,” Hitler said in a bitter personal attack on President and Prime Minister Winston Churchill. But he added: “I do not know whether the war will end this year. ‘We are ready for everything. We are prepared in the desert, in the seas, in the East, everywhere, “Our Gen. Rommel, (in Libya) with his Italian and German troops. has struck back and will continue to strike back to the end of the war. “In Russia, winter our new forces—new Luftwaffe planes—will roar over Russia. The defense in the East is not easy but we will master all problems. The most difficult period is behind us.

But Stand-ins Over Nation Will Celebrate at 12,000 Jubilee Balls.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 30 (U. P). —President Roosevelt is 60 today, but others will have to do most of the celebrating of the occasion for him; he is far too busy piloting the nation in its greatest war. For the President, White House staff members said, it is just another working day—the 54th since Pearl Harbor and one which may, like others before it, last far into the night.

Dires With Youngster

But Mr. Roosevelt, whose years rest lightly upon him and have caused no abatement of his characteristic energy, has a nation full of “stand-ins,” including the cream of Hollywood's youth, beauty and talent, to observe his birthday for him. He. took a short time out at noon, however, to have lunch with Gerry King, 4-year-old victim of infantile paralysis. While the Chief Executive works, other Americans will be dancing the hours away at more than 12,000 “Diamond Jubilee” balls throughout the eountry for the benefit of infantile paralysis victims.
