Reed's Bill to Amend Wage-Hour Law Meets |
Mixed Response.
WASHINGTON, Jan. 29 (U. P). —A proposal to extend the present) 40-hour maximum Federal work| week under the wage-hour law to) § 48 hours for the duration of the § war met mixed response in Con-| gress today. | Senator Clyde M. Reed (R. Kas),! has introduced a bill seeking to amend the law so that employers | would not be required to pay over-| time until after an employee has worked 48 hours. He said that under present wartime conditions it was only “fair and equitable” that such a provision be enacted to aid the “tens of thousands of small employers throughout the country who are struggling for existence.”
