HEADS TO MEET

McNutt to Address Sunday

Session; Expect 800 From Over State.

More than 800 city and town officials and county defense leaders in Indiana are expected to attend a State-wide civilian defense con-

ference Sunday at the Claypool Hotel. Federal Security Administrator

Paul V. McNutt will make the principal address at a luncheon of the defense leaders and officials at noon in the Riley Room. Other officials who will participate in the conference are Frazier) Reams, Office of Civilian Defense regional director at Columbus, O, and Frank Finney, assistant regional director. Governor to Preside Governor Schricker, Indiana's civil defense commanding officer, will preside. The Governor will introduce Mr. McNutt at the luncheon which will climax the morning's discussion on ail phases of civil defense activities. Three major group meetings are scheduled for the afternoon. Dr. John W. Ferree, State Health Commissioner and Defense Medical Service chief, will outline the emergency medical program. Physical Fitness Is Topic Included in this meeting will be discussion on te projected nutrition and physical fitness programs for which committee chairmen in each county will be selected. The second major conference, to be conducted by Clarence A. Jackson, State Defense director, will deal with defense preparations by county directors, mayors, town boards and city and town defense heads. Women's division representatives ill hold a separate meeting to review their progress and make plans for future activities under the leadership of Mrs. George W. Jaqua of Winchester, State Women’s division director. Hope to Step Up Tempo State Director Jackson expressed the belief that the conference would facilitate the rapid integration of civil defense in Indiana, now in the organizational stages. “Fast moving developments in the war situation have made it imperative that we step up the tempo of our preparedness program and this meeting is for that purpose,” Mr. Jackson said

500 DUE AT SESSION OF RESTAURATEURS

More than 500 Hoosier restaurateurs will attend the three-day conation of the Indiana Restaurant Association opening in Indianapolis March 24 E. E. Keller, secretary, sald today. W. O. Wheeler of Indianapolis proprietor of the Wheeler Catering Co. and a past president of the association, is general chairman of the convention commitiee. Miss Lute Martha Troutt, vice president of the association and dietary director of the Indiana University Medical Center, is co-chairman of the committee. A. L. Simmons of New Castle is president of the state association. Harry A. Hall of Indianapolis is treasurer. Besides Miss Troutt, the vice presidents are Tom D. Adams, Indianapolis; D. A. Clark, "South Bend, and A. J. Rogers, Nashville.

SEEK RECRUITS IN COAST GUARD

Office Is Opened on Second Floor of Kresge Bldg.; 30 Accepted.

The U. S. Coast Guard, which, like the Marine Corps, is a part of the Navy, has the “first chance” to get the men who go to the Marine Recruiting Station. The Marines have a recruiting office on the fourth floor of the Kresge Blag. The Coast Guard has just opened a recruiting office on the second floor.

Staff to Be Enlarged

Harvey J. Miller, machinist’s mate, first class, heads the new recruiting station. He is assisted by George A. Fournier, yeoman, third Ciass. The Coast Guard seeks men between 17 and 35. Volunteers under 21 years of age must obilain the consent of their parents. Those past 21 must bring their birth certificates. If married, the wife's consent must be given.
