SCRAP RUBBER SEARGH URGED

Seiberling Asks Even Toys Be Collected to Build Up U. S. Supply.

ARRON, O, Jan. 20 (U. P)-— J. P. Seiberling, president of the Seiberling Rubber Co., has proposed a nation-wide campaign for the collection of “every ounce” of scrap rubber—from children’s toys to floor mats—to augment the nation’s rubber supply. “Americans could aid tremendously in building up the supply of scrap rubber for reclaiming,” Mr. Seiberling told the company’s annual stockholders meeting. “A nationial collection campaign might well be organized to collect many tons of unneeded and unused rubber articles,” he said. “No contributions would be too small, old tires and tubes, millions of rubber heels, children’s toys, floor mats.”

“Meet Your Navy,” a half-hour program from the Great Lakes Naval Training Station, will make its debut on WISH and the Blue Network at 7:30 o'clock. The show is presented in co-operation with the public relations division at the station and will include the Naval Training Band, a 200 voice choir, an orchestra and Lieut. Commander Eddie Peabody, the “banjo king.” 2 8 2 AROUND THE DIAL: As a patriotic gesture, the Columbia Broadcasting System has discarded all symbols regularly used at the end of all newspaper matter, such as “30,” asterisks, ete. In their place, the network has substituted the timely “V» for victory signal of three dots and a dash as derived from the Morse code. . . Last week when Ernst Winkler appeared on the “We, the People’ program, he was hid from view of the audience. The reason is that he is a German citizen still wanted by the Gestapo. . . . Physicians for Army and Civilians Too Is U. S. Goal

By DAVID DIETZ Times Science Writer The task of distributing the nation’s 170,000 medical men among the Army, the Navy, defense industries and civilian practice has been undertaken by the Procurement and Assignment Service for Physicians, Dentists, and Veterinarians. More than 12,000 medical men had already entered military medical service when figures were last made public Aug. 1. The number has since been growing. It has been estimated that an Army of 4,000,000 men would require 32,000 medical officers. The big job is to supply these officers and at the same time maintain the necessary medical services in industry and on the home front. It was for this reason that the new service was set up by President Roosevelt. The service comes under the supervision of Paul V. McNutt, who is director of the Office of Defense Health and Welfare Services. Its

executive officer is Dr. Sam PF. Seeley. The service is now setting up committees in each Army Corps Area, These are composed of representatives of medical, hospital, educational, dental and veterinarian activities. The corps-area committees in turn will supervise the work of state committees, which will set up local committees in each county.
