STATE COUNCIL T0 NAME HEAD

Silver Beaver Awards Also Will Be Made at Annual Meeting Wednesday.

The annual meeting of the Central Indiana Council of the Boy Scouts of America, at which a new council president is chosen and the silver beaver national awards are made, will be held Wednesday in the Tabernacle Presbyterian Church. A business meeting will begin at 5:20 pm. with the banquet and entertainn.ent scheduled for one hour later.

Report oh 19841 Activities

Every troop and cub pack in the council will be represented at the meeting. Reports will be given on the activities of Scouts during 1941, and a colorful pageant, in which all troops will participate, will be shown. The sliver beaver awards are made each year to the laymen who give outstanding service to the council. Four will receive the honor this year,

Miss Wilcox to Sing

Miss Phyllis Wilcox, the Indiana University student from Indlanapolit who gained nation-wide attention recently in the “Hour of Charm” radio finals, will be present at the meeting to sing for the Scouts. Rabbi Morris M. Feuerlicht will be the principal speaker at the banquet., His subject will be “Teolerance.” A. G. Ruddell. council president, will preside and Lloyd Burns, district commissioner of the South Side, will be in charge of the pageant.

PURSE SNATGHERS ACTIVE OVER CITY

An Fast Side woman told police today that her purse was stolen last night by a man who put a gun te her back as she was entereing her home, 130 8. Arlington Ave. The woman, Mrs. William Rodkey, said

the purse contained 210. and that after taking it the man forced her into an alley near her home. He fled when she screamed. she told police A prowler and two other purse snatchers were active over the city last night. Peggy Charles, 13. of 2227 Brookside Ave. screamed when a man entered her home, and he ran out the back door. Bernice Atwell, 2231 Broadway, told police that a man stepped from an automobile and grabbed her purse containing 50 cents as she was walking in the 600 block on BE. 28d St. Police said the car had been reported earlier in the evening. While walking in the 1300 block on 8 Fast St. a man grabbed a purse from Miss Joan Osborn, 111 Kansas St, and then ran. She told police the purse contained $15 and a fountain pen.

RUSSIAVILLE CHURCH DESTROYED BY FIRE

RUSSIAVILLE, Ind, Jan. 8 (U. P.).—Authorities today blamed an overheated furnace for the fire which destroyed the Russiaville Methodist Church last night with an estimated loss of $350,000. In bitter cold, volunteer firemen from Russiaville and Galveston fought the blaze for hours as a high wind threatened to spread the flames to nearby residences. The fire started shortly after the weekly prayer meeting at the church was concluded. Church officials said the loss was covered by insurance.
