The group which will open the 1942 portion of Town Hall series is composed of the wife, five daugh-, ters and two sons of Baron Georg von Trapp, captain of an Austrian submarine during World War I. Dr. Franz Wasner, young Catholic priest who was the family’s chaplain on their estate in Austria, travels with them as conductor. The von Trapps, dressed in native costume, present carols, st@-! dent songs and folk songs. When the Nazis took over Austria, Baron von Trapp was offered a position in the German Navy. He refused and the family left their native home. Their hobby—a-capella singing of old songs and folk tunes—became | a means of livelihood in the United States When not on a singing tour, members of the family make woodcuts, work in leather, weave, Knit and work in clay at their home in Merion, Pa. Three younger children have not vet joined the singing group. The group's program will include! songs by Richard Dering, Hans Leo Hassler, Johannes Brahms, Tomas Luis de Vittoria and several merely designated as “tyrolean song” and “Carinthian folk song.” i Town Hall officials announce that |

National, Local Officers Outline Program at Governor's Office.
A delegation of national and local officers of the auxiliary of the United Automobile workers (C. IL 0.) called on Governor Schricker yesterday to pledge their support in the civil defense program and to notify him of organization defense plans. Mrs. Faye Stephenson of Cleveland, international auxiliary president, said that the 12,000 members were available “to be placed wherever needed.” She also reported that the auxiliary plans to establish hostess clubs to aid in recreational programs for soldiers and to form clubs com-

NEW YORK, Jan. 8 (U. P)—
| Twenty British airmen whose fly-
ing boat was shot down by German fighters in the Mediterranean, landed unarmed in Axisheld territory in Libya, argued with an Italian patrol about whether they or the Italians were prisoners, and finally reached the British lines fully armed and with 250 Italian prisoners. The captain of the flying boat even made a bet with the leader of the Italian patrol that the Italians were trespassing on The incident was reported by the British press service whose correspondent described it as “one of the most bizarre and humorous adventures of the desert war.” He told this story: The airmen swam ashore near Derna on the northeast Libyan coast and were discovered by a party of 20 Italians en route afoot to Barcem. This encounter presented the question of whether the British were Italian prisoners or vice versa, since the British leader contended the Italians were in British-occupied territory. The Italians were armed, sO the British accompanied them toward Barce. But the next morning the Italian major in command admitted he might be wrong and his party left the airmen without guard or escort. Again heading eastward toward the British lines, the fliers soon encountered another party of 50 Italians who promptly surrendered their arms without noticing the
