TAX APPLIES TO ARMY OFFICERS

Payment, However, Can Be Deferred Until 1945, State Says.

Hoosier Army officers must pay State gross income tax on their salaries just like any civilian resident of the State, Gross Income Tax officials said today. They pointed out that the State law, which has been upheld by the U. S. Supreme Court, provides that anyone who is a legal resident of Indiana must pay the State 1 per cent on all income over $1000 a year regardless of how or where the income is earned. Payment of the tax, howeve}, may be deferred until May 15, 1945, under the Soldiers and Sailors Civil Relief Act of 1940, Gilbert K. Hewit, Gross Income Department director, said. But since the relief act expires on that date, commissioned officers in the armed forces must pay cash “on the line” after that date for all accumulated gross tax, he added. The Gross Income Tax Department also warned Hoosiers not to pay their taxes to “agents.” No “agents” have been designated to collect the gross tax and each individual should send the amount of his tax into the department by money order,” officials said.

Cough Relief Is Wonderful

This gives you a full pint of really splendid cough syrup — about four times as much fer your money. It never spoils, and lasts a family a long time. And for real, quick relief, it can’t be beaten. It acts in three ways— loosens the phlegm, soothes the irritated membranes, and helps clear the air passages.

Pinex is a special compound of proven ingredients, in concentrated form, well known for prompt action in coughs and bronchial irritations. Money refunded if it doesn’t please you in every way.

Saves Real Money. No Cooking. Quick Results.

To get the most surprising relief from coughs due to colds, you can easily prepare a medicine, right in your own kitchen. It's very easy—a child could do it—needs no cooking, and tastes so good that children take it willingly. But you'll say it beats them all for quick results. First, make a syrup by stirring cups of granulated sugar and one cup of water a few moments, until dissolved. Then get 215 ounces of Pinex from any druggist, and pour it into a pint bottle. Then add your syrup.
