Engagements of Mary Jane Hamerstadt And Jean Rowan Elliott Are Announced
TWO ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCEMENTS are highlights of the social scene this week-end. Miss Mary Jane Hamerstadt and Miss Jean Rowan Elliott are the young women joining the ranks of brides-to-be. Miss Hamerstadt's engagement to George Estes Bardwell is announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Diehl Hamerstadt. The wedding will be in the early
spring. Mr. Bardwell is the son of Mrs. R. MN. R. Bardwell of Atlanta, Ga., and the late Mr. Bardwell. The bride-to-be attended Stuart Hall at Staunton, Va., and was graduated from the Fairmont School in Washington. The prospective bridegroom is a graduate of the Georgia School of Technology. No date has been announced for the marriage of Miss Elliott to John Adam Larigan, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Larigan of Great Neck, Long Island, N. Y. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Elliott. Mr. Larigan was graduated from Dartmouth College and Miss Elliott will be graduated in June from Edgewood Park College, Briarcliff Manor, N. Y.
Orchard School Plans Twelfth Night Party
FOLLOWING AN ANNUAL CUSTOM, Orchard School girls and boys, their parents and the alumni of the school will observe Twelfth Night with a party beginning at 5:30 p. m. Tuesday. Christmas trees and wreaths will be burned on the school grounds while carols are Sung. This year the bonfire’s light will fall upon the new building for the upper grades which is under construction and which is expected to be ready for occupancy in the early spring. Following the burning of the Christmas greens, a buffet supper will be served in the Orchard School Playhouse, and the evening program will be concluded with an hour of games and dancing. Mrs. Victor R. Jose Jr. has planned the program and Mrs. Robert D. Robinson and Mrs. Egbert G. Driscoll are in charge of arrangements for the supper.
Artists’ Club Meets Monday
THE INDIANA ARTISTS’ CLUB will meet Monday evening at 8 o'clock in the Spink Arms Hotel to hear a discussion of special plans for the opening of the Hoosier Salon this month in Block's auditorium. Curry Bohm, Nashville, president of the club, will talk on the plans for the exhibition. Many of Indiana's artists will be in the city Monday, the last day for entry of paintings in the Salon.

Mrs. William Dobson, regent of the Cargline Scott Harrison Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will preside at the business meeting preceding the 2:45 p. m. program held Thursday in the chapter house. Barbara Jean Johnson ls Married
MR. AND MRS. James P. White are en route to South Hadley, Mass, following their marriage here in St. Paul's Episcopal Church on New Year's Day. They will be at home at 11 Park St. The ceremony, at 10 a. m., was read by the Rev. William Burrows, rector of the church. Mrs. White was Miss Barbara Jean Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul H. Johnson, 417 N. Arsenal Ave, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. M. White, Holyoke, Mass. Mrs. White will continue in her post as an instructor in the Mount Holyoke College zoology department. After being graduated from Shortridge High School, she received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Mount Holyoke, Mr. White attended the Springfield, Mass, branch of Northeastern College. There were no attendants for the wedding which was read before the immediate family. Before the ceremony, Mrs. Helen McPheetérs Rice, organist, played Schubert's “Ave Maria,” Greig’s “Ich Liebe Dich” and “The Evening Star.” The Lohengrin and Mendelssohn wedding marches were played for the processional and recessional. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white satin gown in princess style made with long sleeves and a sweetheart neckline outlined with pearls. She wore a pearl necklace and earrings given her by the bridegroom and a fingertip length veil held by a bandeau of seed pearis®and orange blossoms. The bridal bouquet was of American Beauty and white roses. The couple left by motor immediately after the ceremony for the East. Mrs. White traveled in a black ensemble worn with black accessories and a brown muskrat coat.
Ann Cantwell Has Guests
MISS ANN CANTWELL, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Frank Cantwell, has as her house guests two fellow students at Penn Hall, Chambersburg, Pa. The girls, who arrived New Years Day, are Miss Shirley Humeston of Newark, N. Y.,, and Miss Billie Feddery, Cleveland. The three will leave Monday for the re-opening of school. Ann’s sister, Martha Jo, will leave tomorrow to return to Hollins College, Va. Another Hollins’ student returning tomorrow to school will be Miss Peggy Trusler, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Harold M. Bride of Harry Blasingham In Ceremony This Evening
The home of Dr. and Mrs. Charles Franklin Voyles, 4250 N. Meridian St., will be the scene of the marriage of their daughter, Mary Ellen, to Harry Richard Blasingham tonight at 8:30 o'clock. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry E. Blasingham of Brendonwood. The candlelight ceremony will be performed by Dr. William F. Rothenburger in a Victorian archway of
greenery and gold leaves against a background of American Beauty drapes. Small bouquets of violets, white lilies, pink carnations, ash and American Beauty roses will catch the drapes at both sides of the arch, and in the center will hang a white cross of tiny roses and violets. Two gold seven-branch candelabra will accent the Victorian setting. Miss Mary Catherine Stair, harpist, will play “Ich Liebe Dich,’ “My Hero” and “Because,” preceding the bride's entrance with her father. The bride will wear her mother’s wedding gown of chiffon cloth made over a taffeta petticoat. The waist is shirred tight and the skirt full with a petticoat ruffie at the hem joined by three rows of tucking to the overdress. It has a short train and elbow-length puffed sleeves. The square neckline will be accented by a lace collar which belonged to the bride’s grandmother. It will be set on to the dress with seed pearls. The bride's full-length veil will fall from a tiara of lace matehing her collar. She will carry a crescent-shaped bridal bouquet of assorted white flowers.

Miss Priscilla Blasingham, sister of the bridegroom, will be the bride's only attendant. She will be in a gown of ash rose taffeta with full skirt, tight waist, sweetheart neckline and puffed sleeves. Her cres-cent-shaped bouquet will be pink

The bride was graduated from DePauw University and Radcliffe College in Cambridge, Mass. She is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Mr. Blasingham was graduated from Culver Military Academy and the Case School of Applied Science. He is a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity.
