Defense Training Courses Emphasized; General Service Popular.
Times Special BLOOMINGTON, Ind, Jan, 3—A total of 1,213,911 Hoosiers took advantages of the extension activities of Indiana University during 1941, according to a report made public today. For years the university had ex-
tension centers in various parts of the state, but during the past year, new state schools were opened. specializing in national defense training courses. The activity affecting the largest group of persons was the general service work, which included lectures, visual aid material (motion pictures, slides and exhibits) mail libraries, drama loans and public school contests. Over 784,328 persons availed themselves of this service.
Medical Center Active
I. U. Medical Center services in Indianapolis cared for 70,706 persons, and clinics at the Center had 20,053 out-patients. The Speech and Hearing Clinic operated from Bloomington and aided by Psi Jota Xi sorority, administered tests to 67,000. schoolchildren throughout the state. Conferences and exhibits conducted by the university during the year were attended by 198,071 persons. Other services by the university to people of Indiana were: Bureau of teacher recommendations; library off-campus; school of music; institute of criminal law administration; department of government; inquiries to physics, chemistry and botany departments; geological surveys; training course for social work; distributive education; psychological clinics; biological surveys; school of education, school of law, and school of business. Teaching services offered by the university served 18,042 persons.
