| JUST BECAUSE THE CRITICS say it's bad doesn't always make it so. Not. at least, from the standpoint of cash turnover at the box office. A bright example of this bit of theatrical truth is “Separate Rooms,” | which comes to English’s stage tomorrow night for a three-day stay. Had the management of this opus listened attentively to the New York reviewers. the tents would have been quietly folded and it never would have been heard of in these districts. brothers (Mr. Dinehart and Lyle Talbot) whe share a penthouse

apartment in New York. All is peace and serenity until the younger brother, Mr. Talbot, brings home a bride, a young actress of the quicksilver type. Distrustful of women in general any way, Brother Dinehart eventually finds himself elbowed out of the house and finally involved in a romance of his own. Virginia Smith, who already | had some Rroadway hits to her credit, is the young bride-actress and others in the cast include Madora Keene, Lionel Ince, Kirk Brown, Warren Douglas and Wesley Givens. From what we've heard, this is a show that owes its present life to the women. In fact, it is reported that Producer Stein, standing in the New York lobby one evening and listening to the | audience response, exclaimed: “Hear that? Hear all those women? This is a woman's show. Why, there were times when you uld shoot a gun in the balcony and you wouldn't hit two men.” Careful there, Mr. Stein.

Cornelia on Way

CORNELIA Otis Skinner, who used to perform her dramatic stints alone, has a play now and unless something goes awry, it will be at English’s on Jan. 30-81. ‘The title is “Theatre,” a drama which Guy Bolton and Somerset Maugham gleaned from the latter's novel of the same name. “The Student Prince” may be here Jan. 26, 27 and 28, but, said Manager Vincent Burke. that is tentative.
