+ HOLLYWOOD, Dec. 30 (U. P.).— Lucille Ball an up-to-the-minute ~ girl who usually plays that sort of “Tole on the screen, gets her first . chance at a historical part in “Valfey of the Sun.” This 1s the Clarence Budington story which ran as a serial “in the Saturday Evening Post. Miss . Ball will play the part of Christine, "8 girl who lived in the Arizona of 1868 and thereabouts. The actress, who was not familiar “with the story until she was con‘®idered for the part, said she was surprised to find that the girls of that time, apparently, thought and “acted like those of today.

New Experience “It is odd,” she said, "that I never even thought of myself in a role of this type. Previously outdoor pictures, particularly those of the early West, didn't seem to be my forte. | “When Producer Graham Baker .Bave me the script I was surprised “Po find that Christine was as natural @& character as any girl of today. “She's a real human being, not the sugary-sweet thing that often has been portrayed as the girl of the 1860s.
