HOLC CLOSES LOCAL OFFICE WEDNESDAY
State employees of the Home * |Owners’ Loan Corp. today made final arrangements to close the Indiana HOLC office on Dec. 31, after almost nine years of operation. State Manager Robert M. Collier announced that the Indiana branch would be suspended, and the rest of the Hoosier collection work would be directed from regional headoe. lquarters at Detroit. Of the 73 employees in the state office, 25 will be retained to service loans, handle reconditioning and manage property. Arrangements are under way to transfer other employees to private industry or Federal defense agencies, Mr, Collier said. More than $50,000,000 in loans has been collected and 7200 accounts are paid in full, “but a huge collection job still faces the Indiana HOLC,” Mr. Collier said. Between 1933 and 1938, loans were granted to 48824 distressed home owners, at a total of $112,170,692. Since 1926 additional advances amounting to $2,403,188 were granted for maintaining property and defraying taxes. “Of the original borrowers, 82.2 per cent are either on their way to debt-free ownership or have paid off their loans,” Mr, Collier announced. Today the HOLC owns 588 homes in Indiana, and has sold 5735 others on a long-term basis. More than 97 per cent of the purchases are current in their payments, the office said, and of the 588 homes owned, 94.6 per cent are rented. :
