R. Vincent Schoener, for seven years service manager for the Wm, H. Block Co., died yesterday in his home, 1544 Lexington Ave. after a long illness. He was 37. Mr. Schoener formerly was associated with the General Electric Co. in Cleveland and Akron, O., for two

Naval Reserve, he was born in Indianapolis July 9, 1904. He was a member of the Olive Branch Christian Church and formerly was an elder and teather of the builders’ class of young people at the church.
Services Monday
Survivors are his wife, Vivian; four daughters, Dorothy Alice, Patricia Jane, Ann and Nancy Schoener; a son, R. Vincent Schoener Jr.; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John T. Schoener, and a sister, Mrs. F. E. Raschig. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p. m, Monday at the Olive Branch Church, with burial at New Palestine. Friends may call at the J. C. Wilson Funeral Home until noon Monday.

Funeral services for Miss Helen Annetta Osborn, who died yesterday in her home, 1635 Woodlawn Ave., will be held at 1 p. m. tomorrow in the Harry W. Moore Peace Chapel, and at 2 p. m. in the Noblesville Christian Church. Burial will be in Crownland Cemetery, Noblesville.
Miss Osborn was 26, and had been ill since May. She was a member of the Noblesville Christian Church. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Irl M. Osborn; a brother, James W. Osborn; a sister, Mrs. Herbert Koch, and two nephews.
NIMITZ PREPARED T0 TAKE COMMAND
HONOLULU, Dec. 27 (U. P). — Admiral Chester W. Nimitz was ready today to take command of the Pacific Fleet in the most crucial hours of its history. Fleet headquarters announced vesterday that he had arrived in the Hawaiian area. Territorial Delegate Samuel W. King arrived by plane yesterday from Washington, to get a firsthand pitcure of events and conditions and to confer with departmental officials. He conferred with Governor Joseph B. Poindexter shortly after he landed. Mr. King said he had to familiarize himself with the situation in order to expedite the passage of several Hawaiian matters pending before Congress and the executive department. Meanwhile, Adj. Gen. P. M. Smoot announced that he was recruiting more men for service in the Hawaiian Territorial Guard. He said volunteers must be between 18 and 64 and serve for one year.
CHARLES L. BRUGH’S SERVICES TOMORROW
Services for Charles L. Brugh, 1433 Linden St., will be at 2 p. m. tomorrow in Robert W. Stirling Funeral Home. Burial will be in Round Hill Cemetery. Mr, Brugh died Thursday following an illness of several months. He was 85 and had been a resident of Indianapolis 45 years. He was formerly a stone planer at the G. Ittenbach Flagstone Co. Born near Salem, Mr. Brugh was a member of the Central Christian Church and a former member of the Odd Fellows and Red Mens Lodges. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Vera Beswick, and a granddaughter, Marian B. Fisher, both of Indianapolis.

Mrs. Nellie M. Newmier, a native of Indianapolis, died yesterday at her home, 906 Butler Ave., after an iliness of five weeks. She was 68. Mr. Weber had been in the farm implement business many years at New Palestine and Cumberland before coming to Indianapolis. He was associated with the John Deere Co. 13 years. WOMAN FAGES TRIAL IN CARVER SLAYING
CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind, Dec. 27 (U. P.).~—Mrs. Mary Knee, 28-year-old Crawfordsville woman who was indicted for first-degree murder in the death of Scott Gerald Carver Sept. 13, will stand trial in the Fountain Circuit Court at Covington. The case was venued from the Montgomery Circuit Court yésterday by Judge Edgar Rice upon plea of defense counsel. Mrs. Knee was indicted in connection with the fatal shooting of Carver along with Paul Hitch, 39, road worker, who was convicted last week of manslaughter and sentenced to State Prison. Hitch named the woman as an accomplice,

CIVILIAN WORKERS NEEDED IN HAWAII
Civilian workers are needed at Pearl Harbor to keep that Hawaiian naval base “ready and fit” at all times for the Pacific fleet, C. P. Bernhart, local secretary of the U. 8. Civil Service Commission,
said today. Mr. Bernhart announced that prospective applicants for jobs at Pearl Harbor will be interviewed Monday at 148 B. Market St. Those who qualify as civillan employees of the Navy will be paid traveling expenses to Hawaii. O. E. DRIVER ARRESTED IN AUTO ACCIDENT
Kenneth M. Johnson, 21, a taxi driver, was under arrest today following the gerious injury of William R. Key, 2306 Kenwood, a pedestrian, Mr. Key, 39, received a possible fracture of the left leg and scalp lacerations when hit by Johnson's taxicab at Washington and East Sts, police said. Mr. Johnson, of 854 Eugene St., was charged by police with “failing to give pedestrian right-of-way.” Mr. Key's condition was reported as serious at City Hospital.

STARLINGS LEAD IN BIRD POPULATION
The first general survey of the bird population in Indianapolis by the Indiana Audubon Society discl there are 19,442 birds with the Starlings in heavy majority— 16,000. Others noted in the survey were English sparrows, bluebirds, cardinals, pigeons, wrens and woodpeckers.
The Federal Building was listed as the most populous, with 8000 perchers. Other gathering places for birds in the downtown area are the Monument Circle, the Court House, the City Hall, St, Mary's Catholic Church, the Indianapolis Athletic Club, the Scottish Rite Cathedral, and University Park.
