CHRISTMAS OF ALL TIMES IS a time for jollification and good cheer and it is strictly along these lines that the downtown theaters have chosen their offerings for tomorrow. Look about where you may and you won't find a serious thought or moral among them all. At English’s where we had grown to expect the yearly visit of
“Tobacco Road” u
pon this night of nights, we find the times have
changed and this time it's “Life With Father.” In case there are any doubts still at large, allow it to be explained once again that this is the domestic comedy of the Elegant Eighties which Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse afaphed from Clarence Day's
stories about his father in the
New Yorker magazine.

P) — Maureen O'Hara, Irish screen star, and Will Price, film dialog director, have announced that they ‘will be married Dec. 29 at the home of Mr. Price's parents in McComb, Miss. Mr. Price left to make the arrangemenis, and Miss O'Hara plans to leave today. Their romance started two years ago when Price directed her first screen test. Miss {O'Hara came to the films after | making a hit on the Dublin stage.

HOLLYWOOD, Dec. 24-—Movie-town reports—The censorship scare has got to such a point that Producer Boris Morros, glimpsing a plaster Venus in the background on one of his sets, ordered a plaster sarong modeled on it. Madeleine Carroll declares she’s quitting Hollvwood and will be Lon-don-bound in January. . . . Arline Judge, after a two-picture comeback, says she’s quitting movies for good.
ROLE DEBATED FOR DIANA BARRYMORE
HOLLYWOOD, Dec. 24 (U. P) — Diana Barrymore, eldest child of actor John Barrymore, was considered by Walter Wanger today for her first film role. He may offer her a contract for the feminine lead in “The Eagle Squadron,” soon to go into production. At present Miss Barrymore is playing in “The Land Is Bright,” a Broadway hit.

Oakie Arrested
HOLLYWOOD, Dec. 2¢ (U. P.) —Jack Oakie, 38-year-old movie comedian, was arrested in Van Nuys and booked for driving while intoxicated. He was released on bail. Traffic investigators said Oakie was driving a car which collided with one driven by G. F. Marbut of Van Nuys. There were no injuries.

HOLLYWOOD, Dec. 24 (U.P.)— A degree of doctor of letters has been conferred upon Jean Hersholt, veteran character actor who plays the part of a doctor of medicine on the radio and in many movies. Hersholt was honored by De Landas University, Canta Ana, Cal.

HOLLYWOOD, Dec. 24 (U.P.)— M-G-M stars have discovered how to stand out in a blackout. Virginia - O'Brien and Eleanor Powell, making up for a dimly lighted shipboard scene for “Ship Ahoy,” found that a luminous fine-grain powder, mixed with ordinary face powder, applied a glow easily discernible in the dark.
