WARREN RATE HIKED FOR FIRE PROTECTION

The State Tax Board has increased the township fund tax rate of Warren Township from 1.5 to 25 cents to provide fire protection. The 1-cent increase will raise approximately $3700, enough to pay for fire protection from the City of Indianapolis, officials believe. Under an arrangement with city officials, city trucks will answer fire alarms in the portion of Warren Township outside the City and the City will be paid a certain amount for each run. Township officials had proposed to levy enough taxes to build a fire department, but the County Tax Adjustment Board overruled. The total township rate for residents inside the City limits is now $3.02 and for those outside, $1.36. The Warren Township action was the last to be taken by the State Board on the 1942 rates of local governmental units.
