pace 8 TURKEY FEARS NAZI INVASION

__“Thinks Bulgaria's Entry in . War Means Trouble Next Spring.

By DAVID M. NICHOL t. 1941, by The Indianapolis Times and The Chicago Daily News, Inc. BERN, Dec. 18-—-Nazi denials so far apparently have done little to relieve the uneasiness centering around Turkey by Bulgaria's decjaration of war against the allies.

An Ankara dispatch in yesterday's Neue Zuercher Zeitung reports considerable sae CONeCern about possible develop ments in the spring. The account indicates| the belief that no; move is possible] during the winter months because of | ! climatic and geo-| graphical circum- | stances. | Signs exist, the account continues, | that some units of | the German army withdrawn from] the eastern front since have moved uth into Bulgaria. Istanbul, the papers correspondent says, is easily excited and prey to all rumors. It adds, however, that a story is circulating that the Germans and Italians plan a joint drive against Turkey from a semigircular ring of bases from Bulgaria to the Dodecanese islands. Ankara is inclined to see {ll ginens in several recent events, the account goes on. Turkey has not been asked to take over the protection of their diplomatic interests by any of the jarge number of new belligerents. Germany is believed to be building up a case of alleged “unneutrality” against Turkey. Axis powers have directed questions to Turkey as to whether Ankara will be represented in the recent diplomatic and military conferences of Americans and English in Syria. :

LEAHY ACCUSED OF INTRIGUING IN VICHY

VICHY, Dec. 18 (U. P.).—In their eagerness to see the American Embassy removed from Vichy, Marcel Deat and Jean Luchaire, two most important members of the Paris collaborationist press, have opened a campaign of unprecedented vigor against American influence in Vichy, openly accusing Ambassador teahy of intriguing against the Franco-German collaboration pol-

icy. This campaign goes beyond mere attacks on the American ambassador personally and even tends to accuse the French Government of favoring his presence in Vichy. Marcel Deat writes: “Now that war has been declared between Germany and the United States one cannot well see through what legal fiction the American Ambassador can remain in Vichy and continue to be the center there of Anglo-Saxon intrigues as he has been all of the last year.” - Jean Luchaire, in Les Nouveaux Temps, openly accuses Mr. Leahy of being the instigator of the reSent hitch in Franco-German relaons.

Are Girls Private Property Here?

WASHINGTON, Dec. 18 (U. P). «When the War ent catches up on its more pressing business, it might take up the matter of the sergeants who chisel in oh the privates’ girls. The Office of\ Defense, Health and Welfare Services received this report from an easterm women's college: “A torrent of dissent was loosed when the matter of dancing with soldiers came up for discussion (at a conference on the girls’ part in defense) Part of the dissatisfaction has to do with the military ules of etiquette. “When we dance with a nice boy who is a private,’ one delegate said, “The sergeant cuts in and that's the last we ever see of him.’ It seems the Army has a rule that 8 private cant cut in on a

Rules affecting the wing and power loading are best left alone at the present time, since many splendid models have just been designed to fit these regulations and they should not be made obsolete before they have even been flown in competition. article in Air Trails, are the best yet offered as a solution to the problem of preventing planes from losing themselves, without changing the weight regulations. Goldberg was on the board of judges at last summer's ScrippsHoward Junior National Air Races. In the original design event he witnessed the performance of Dick Korda’s dethermalizer. It was so impressive that Korda won third in that event. : Now Goldberg believes that if all were equipped with a de-

thermalizer, a gadget to make them start down in a spiral after a determined number of minutes, the problem would be solved in the most scientific manner,

thermalizers would be no more stringent a rule than the one handed to modelists several years ago when they were told their motors must stop after 30 seconds. In fact, it's natural for the modelist to welcome a challenge to his ingenuity, along new and untried lines especially. It wouldn't be difficult to have every gas job equipped by next sume

mer’s contest. Builders would rather do that than chuck their planes entirely for heavier ones with bigger motors. And as Goldberg states in his article, heavier models are more dangerous to fly as they strike harder when they crash. They're also harder to adjust, on account of the weight.
