Women to Be Permitted to Work In|3 Indiana Defense Plants at Night. By ROGER nT ———

WOMEN IN INDIANA DEFENSE FACTORIES will|3} be allowed to work on late night shifts from now on although there is a state law prohibiting it. The War Department has asked the State Labor Department not to enforce the law in order to speed defense production. But State Labor Commissioner Thomas R. Hutson warns that the law still applies to concerns not working on war orders. The Indiana law prohibits women from working in factories from 10 at night until 6 in the morning except in a few cases where they are allowed to work until

midnight. Relaxing enforcement of the law

for the duration will permit the i smokeless powder and bag-load- " ing plants at

Charlestown to

use women ‘ workers three shifts a day,
