Missed Draft but Japan's
Attack Causes Pair To Enlist.
Typical of the reaction shown by Indianapolis young men when the United States declared war on Japan was that expressed by two brothers, Jack and Jim Kirby. Because of their ages, both missed the draft. Jim, who is 31, was not called because of the 28year clause. Jacek, just 20, was too young. Then America was attacked by Japanese forces. Today, Jim leaves for the Great lakes Naval Training Station. He nlisted in the Navy Medical Coips. Jack, after receiving written permission from his parents, fs*at Ft. Harrison, having enlisted in the Air Corps. He is awaiting the outcome of his army examinations. Both men have lived here all their life. They both attended St. Philip Neri School, Cathedral High School and Notre Dame University. Jim is a member of the firm of Kirby Mortuary and Jack has recently been employed by the Col-gate-Palmolive-Peet Co. They live with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Garrett F. Kirby, 655 N. Rural St.
