By JOE FALCARO “Greatest Match Game Bowler” ETIQUETTE is an important part of any game, and bowling, like every other sport, has certain rules and regulations that players must follow. : While one may claim that eti-
quette never improved a bowler's score, it certainly adds to the enjoyment, good fellowship and competitive enjoyment of the game,
bowl. It is not only poor manners, but it is distracting. Confine your body English to the width of your own alley. Some of the gyrations I have seen at bowling alleys seemed amusing at first, until it was apparent that they were annoying everyone in the place. = 8 A PREFERRED courtesy is to let the bowler to your right roll first. Many players dislike to approach simultaneously with a bowler on an adjoining alley.

PROVIDENCE, Dec. 11.—-The Indianapolis Capitals hockey team has a habit of spotting their opponents all kind of goals and then beating them in the last minute of play. But for the third successive road trip game, they were knocked off before they had time to score that last—and winning goal. Last night, the Caps lost to Providence, 3 to 2, in a fast, thrilling game that saw the Caps losing, 3 to 0, with seven minutes to go in the final period. The Indianapolis team then scored two goals on plays by Connie and Harry Brown to Adam Brown, and Adam Brown to Connie Brown. The Brown boys didn’t have what it takes, however, to put across another marker. Herbie Lewis, manager of the visiting club, finally pulled Goalie Lou Parras off the ice and attempted a wild, six-man offensive in an attempt to tie the count. The Caps remained in second place in the western division of the American Hockey League, with the point standings unchanged, since Hershey, leading the loop, did not lay. Pp Cleveland, third in the western loop and only two points behind the Caps, lost a chance to draw nearer, by losing, 3 to 2, to the lowly Pittsburgh Hornets. AMERICAN LEAGUE Western Division

Reckoning-Up Time for Our Trading, Whooping Indians
Times Special CHICAGO, Dec. 11.-—-It's reckoning-up time for the Indianapolis Indians—a different ball club than they were a few short weeks ago. Co-owner Owen J. Bush has completed some pretty fancy deals at the major league convention here and at the minor conclave at
Jacksonville last week. Now he’s on the lookout for a
And the Jhdans will have to have, ——
a coach, of or iy ‘the deal that overshadowed perhaps even the purchase of the Indans by Bush and Frank E. McKinney was the signing of Leo (Gabby) Hartnett as manager. That was a signal that there was going to be some real spadework in the Tribe garden this spring. Hartnett is a worker, and terribly conscientious, and he wouldn't bother to take a job at Indianapolis if he didn’t think it was worth while for everyone concerned. The Indians definitely have an outfield. In addition to Jake Powell, Joe Moore and Morrie Arnovich, recently bought, there .is Wayne Blackburn, Milt Galatzer, Allen Hunt and Lagrant Scott. The latter group will be held in order to guard against loss of talent because of the war. The infield now includes three men from last year—Wayne Ambler, Joe Bestudik and Joe Mack— and one newcomer, Billy Skelly, a Texas Leaguer bought from the Yanks. First base is a definite question mark, as is the pitching staff. There has been talk that Bush might get Johnny McCarthy from the Yankees for first base, but that is only a “bare possibility.” The hurling has been strengthened by the purchase of Steve Rachunok of Montreal and Earl Reid of Portland. Neither of these boys have brilliant records, but the presence of Gabby Hartnett makes any pitcher he has a chance to work with, a posisble winner,

Purdue Drills For DePaul
Times Special LAFAYETTE, Ind. Dec. 11.—<Purdue’s varsity basketball squad underwent an intensive scrimmage here last night as Coach Ward Lambert attempted to speed up the Boilermaker offensive for the DePaul game here tomorrow night. Hoping to overcome some of the inaccuracy that existed in the initial tilt of the season Monday night, when the engineers defeated Wabash, 41-20, the Purdue mentor ran the squad through one of its longest drills. DePaul’'s basketball five, which last year defeated Purdue, 37-33, in its only non-conference defeat of the season, has already defeated Concordia College, Kalamazoo Teachers, and Chicago Teachers, and last night defeated Arkansas Teachers, 73 to 26, at Chicago. Probable Boilermaker starters in the DePaul encounter are Al Menke, center; Capt. Don Blanken and Bob Riley, guards; Forrest Sprowl and Mickey Tierney, forwards.

Seek Change in Option Rule
CHICAGO, Dec. 11 (U. P).~— Owners of baseball's great farm systems hoped today to place before Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis a simplified agreement designed to bring long sought peace between the Judge and chainstore baseball. The chainstore amendment provides that a player may be moved to an affiliated club in a league of higher or lower classification without having a year of option charged against him. Once his contract is acquired by a major league club, however, he may be optioned only for two years. The two year provision does not appear in the present code although if each transfer is charged as a year of option. Sam Breadon, president of the St. Louis Cardinals, indicated it did not allow time enough to determine whether a player was worth keeping. Trad continued as Washington shipped Pitcher Vern Kennedy to Cleveland for cash, first acquistion by Manager Lou Boudreau, who is desperate for pitchers since the Naval enlistment of Bob Feller. Kennedy, who pitched a no-hitter for the Chicago White Sox in 1935, won three and lost 11 tor St. Louis and Washington last year. Larry MacPhail of Brooklyn still
